Ruth’s practice is devoted almost exclusively to appellate litigation. She has handled more than 100 appeals and original proceedings in various Texas and federal appellate courts. In addition to appealing and defending final judgments, Ruth provides appellate support during trial in complex cases throughout Texas, briefs and argues complex motions in trial courts, and handles mandamus proceedings. Substantively, Ruth’s docket has included product liability, legal and medical malpractice, general tort, and insurance coverage matters.
Ruth’s product liability experience includes such varied products as motor vehicles, medical devices, construction equipment, tires, and tractor–trailer trucks. She has handled numerous mandamus proceedings involving discovery orders and procedural matters and advises trial counsel on protecting trade secrets and other confidential information during litigation. In complex, high–risk cases, Ruth has attended trial and been responsible for various portions of the trial that take place outside the presence of the jury, such as: preparing and arguing trial motions and briefs; preparing proposed jury instructions and questions; participating in jury charge conferences; preparing and presenting objections to the jury charge; preserving error, and preparing and arguing post–trial motions. In appellate cases, Ruth is responsible from the time of judgment throughout the appellate process. A list of representative cases can be provided on request.
Ruth has lived in San Antonio since 1981. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and dogs. She loves music, dancing, gardening, and all types of needlework.
